USA: (Nearly unknown) rooftops in NY
Updated: Apr 3
When in New York you must try as many rooftops as possible. After all, the view of the city from above is a must. But every time someone talks about rooftops in the city, the same names come up.
What if you could get a list with five less obvious rooftops to eat, drink and enjoy the city that never sleeps? But beware, most of this places only open between Spring and Summer.
Brooklyn Ball Factory: This hidden place in Bushwick, Brooklyn, has cafes and Japanese food made with lots of love and care. So much love that chef Makoto Suzuki built the deck with his own hands. So enjoy a latte, a sandwich, or some noodles on a comfy wooden chair by this colorful graffiti wall - it's so silent you won't believe you are in NY.
Address: 95 Montrose Ave, Brooklyn, NY. Hours: Monday through Thursday, from 8 to 17h; Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
La Quinta Rooftop: If you ask any local if they know La Quinta, the answer will probably be 'no'. The hotel is not very flashy, the neighborhood is not super visited and so the rooftop of La Quinta is practically unexplored. Certainly a well-kept secret. Your chance to have cheap drinks with the Empire State Building right across the street.
Address: 17 West 32nd St, Manhattan, NY. Schedule: Daily 24 hours a day.
Gallow Green: And if climbing on the rooftop gives you the impression of being in a forest? In Gallow Green, it is easy to get lost in an oasis of flowers and trees. It's great for anyone going to enjoy the show Sleep No More. Cocktails are a little pricey ($40 on average), but you can order a beer and enjoy the view and ambiance - why not?
Address: 542 W 27th St., NY. Hours: Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday, from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.; Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; Sunday, from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Loopy Doopy Rooftop: What is better than a cocktail? A cocktail with popsicles inside. What's even better than popsicle cocktails? I'd say champagne on tap. Taking a prosecco drink with custom popsicles is something special and is probably only possible in NYC. Happiest time ever.
Address: Conrad New York Hotel, 102 N End Ave, NY. Hours: Monday through Thursday, from 12 to 0h; Friday and Saturday from 12 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Sunday from 12 a.m. to 0 p.m.
Pod 39: If you're more interested in eating than drinking, do not worry. Pod 39 has decent Mexican food and a panoramic view of the river and the Empire State Building. This is the ideal place for you to enjoy drinks with tequila and eat some good tacos while watching the sunset.
Address: 145 E 39th St., NY. Schedule: daily from Noon to Midnight
